More About Sidney

From the redeveloped Mary Winspear Community Center to its popular Thursday evening summer street market, there is always something happening in Greater Victoria’s “Sidney by the Sea.” As the gateway to the southern Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, this coastal town offers plenty to explore.

Located on the Saanich Peninsula, Sidney has a light industrial vibe where many people work in construction, manufacturing, and warehousing. There are plenty of shopping centres, waterfront walkways, parks, restaurants, and marinas to keep both tourists and residents happy.

In addition to its convenient location near Victoria International Airport and BC Ferries' Swartz Bay Terminal, Sidney is also the only Canadian seaport in the Washington State Ferries system, offering routes to the San Juan Islands and Anacortes. With Central Saanich and North Saanich nearby, and Highway 17 cutting through the town from north to south toward Downtown Victoria, getting around is incredibly easy.

The eastern side of Highway 17 features single family homes, while the town’s eastern sector is where you will find most of the condominium buildings along with many of the local service and retail shops.
